February 2010 Meeting will NOT be held on the second Wednesday of the month at the regular location.

This is a special WEEKEND meeting / mineral workshop at Scott Higgins House in Eliot, ME. Everybody is welcome, but it would be helpful to call (or eMail) to let them know you are coming. Anyone who wants to bring a finger food or a casserole for lunch – sort of potluck – would be welcome. You are welcome to come ANY TIME AFTER 9:00 AM

9:30 AM: Scholarship Committee Meeting
11:00 AM – 11:30 AM: SENHMC Meeting

NOON through the afternoon: Afternoon Program:
- Tour Scott’s collection
- Work on minerals in Scott’t shop – cut/trim/etc. 
- Get help identifying minerals you bring.
- Patrick will bring Ultraviolet lamp equipment to check mineral fluorescence.
- Patrick will also bring a laptop with a handheld USB microscope camera to view those tiny crystals.
- We can have a walk-through of the senhmineralclub.org website to show you the many things you can find and do. If you have a laptop, you may want to bring it so we can demonstrate the online chat feature of the site.

The Maine Pegmatite Workshop for 2010 if officially taking registrations as of today. Held once again at Poland Mining Camps in Poland, Maine, we are hopeful that you can attend this annual event! The Workshop dates for this year are May 29 to June 4, 2010. (Memorial Day week)

This Workshop is a week of interactive, educational lectures and field classes concerning pegmatology, as we also visit and collect at active pegmatite quarries closed to the public each day. This is an unbelievable opportunity for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast, from College Students to the Professionals to expand your knowledge base and explore new ideas with others of like-minds. We welcome registrants at all levels of expertise, because we all have something to learn and things to share. And, we can guarantee you, that you will see and get to do things that very few enthusiasts ever will.

Brought to you by the Faculty of the MP2 Research Group, Dr. William ”Skip” Simmons of the University of New Orleans leads our team. You can meet the other members of the Faculty here - http://homepage.mac.com/rasprague/PegShop/faculty.html . Additionally, many of the local pegmatite miners will share with you inside information, their experiences and newest discoveries, plus be available to show you around their mines during the week. But you’ll have to visit our Web Site to find out what we do at night! It is almost as enjoyable as the days.

The Workshop limits registration to 30 people, on a “First Paid, First Reservation” basis, so if you have decided to register, do so as soon as you can. We are still fine tuning our guest speaker list and field trip locations, and other news will be added to our web site periodically as it comes in. So be sure to Bookmark and check our site for updates.

Additionally, we are arranging a day of partying, food and tailgate minerals on the last Saturday, June 5th … and there is no charge for this final day. All registrants, even their friends are invited. All of the details are in the Website.

What: Annual Boston Mineral Club Auction

Who: Anyone! Members, non-members, mineral enthusiasts, the curious.
Where: Needham Village Club in Needham, MA
When: Saturday January 16, 2010. (This takes place of the January meeting.)
Why: This is a great opportunity to have fun and socialize with fellow mineral enthusiasts while taking advantage of an opportunity to acquire mineral specimens, equipment, and literature.

Ths Annual Auction is the main source of revenue for the club. The money raised pays for our membership in the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies, monthly speakers, and field-trip related expenses such as insurance.

Please consider donating specimens to this worthwhile event. We also accept consignments!

Note: The annual auction takes place of the monthly meeting for January.
